Do you have any judgments against you at this point? If you do not you still have time, as they can continue to contact you to collect the debt, but cannot legally collect by force as in garnishing your wages, bank account, or placing liens on any of your property. Unless, you own your home - then you may be looking at foreclosure if your mortgage goes unpaid. If you have only been unemployed/unable to pay your bills for a short time put all your energy into finding work. Contact your creditors and find out if they have any sort of temporary forgiveness for unemployment.

If bankruptcy does end up your only option you can file either a chapter 7 - where all your debt is forgiven, but you will lose any assets of value, or a chapter 13 where it is possible to keep assets like your home and vehicle, but you are required to have a job to qualify as you must make monthly payments to the court determined by your income.

Good luck -
References :
independent consumer advocate
