If I file for bankruptcy will my legal fees be removed?

I don’t owe anything but $15,000 in restitution and I was wondering if I file for bankruptcy in Michigan would it be taken care of.

Here is an excellent site with some wonderful options for you. It will definitely help you. Have a look.

It’s odd that you seem happy to trade your credit (and subsequently any chance of getting hired if you need to look for a job at some point) for the equivalent of $5.88 a day for the next seven years…

I don’t know if that type of debt can be discharged under any bankruptcy law.

If you file for bankruptcy, you pay the attorney fee and the court filing fee and they are not refunded.

For that small amount, the court may reject it and set you up on a payment plan. Remember, even if you take that route and it’s approved, it will be on all 3 credit reports for 10 years. Even you apply for a job, they now run credit reports. Is it worth the risk?

Criminal restitution is generally nondischargeable. 11 U.S.C. 523(a)(13). Check with an attorney to be certain.

Nearly all consumer bankruptcy attorneys offer free consultations. Take advantage of this to find an attorney that can give personal advice based on your particular situation.
